Pinker Pinker has been the surprise winner of the 2011 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley racecourse today October 22, 2011.

The superb mare won the race ahead of Jimmy Choux and Rekindled Interest.

Trainer Greg Eurell was overwhelmed with emotion to have won Australia’s weight-for-age championship.

“It’s hard to absorb at the moment,” Eurell said.

“It’s really got to me, (it’s a) great experience.”

The trainer said in-form jockey Craig Williams had gone into the 2011 Cox Plate with a solid plan.

“He had it worked out to the minute what we’d like to do,” Williams said.

“He was very confident.”

Pinker Pinker had performed consistently over her four runs this preparation.

“You always have little hiccups that create a problem,” Eurell said.

“But she just had nothing go wrong, she just led into this perfect.”

Eurell purchased Pinker Pinker for $120,000 at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

“We had a look at her and she was the one we wanted and fortunately we got her,” he said.

Co-owner Julie Gazdowicz described her excitement at winning the $3 million race.

“I can’t describe it, (I’m) still shaking,” she said.

“It’s just something that you dream about.

“It’s better than good, it’s amazing.”

Craig Williams was aboard Pinker Pinker for her Cox Plate 2011 win.

“It’s a great thrill,” Williams said.

“Today Pinker Pinker deserved to win the race, she was great.

“I’m just very lucky to sit on her.

“She won with ease, she just gave me a beautiful ride.

“She was relaxed and we got into a nice position.

“She just gritted her teeth and bared it, she was awesome today.”

Pinker Pinker will now head towards the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup on November 1, 2011, at Flemington Racecourse.

The mare was 24^th in the ballot order until today’s Cox Plate 2011 win.
