Helmet Overtakes Jimmy Choux As Cox Plate 2011 Favourite

October 11th, 2011

Peter Snowden’s Helmet has been elevated to race favourite for the 2011 Cox Plate after his spectacular Caulfield Guineas win last Saturday.

The three-year-old is now the $3.50 favourite for the race at Luxbet, sitting ahead of Jimmy Choux, who is currently paying horse racing odds of $4.50.

Snowden all but confirmed that Helmet would run in the $3 million Cox Plate after his impressive win last weekend ahead of Golden Rose winner Manawanui.

“He’s a very valuable colt now. I have to see what the boys in Dubai say, but for mine he should take his place,” Snowden said.

“It was a super win, a daring ride.

“I told Kerrin, ‘be brave, you are on the best horse and see what they’re made of over the last half-mile’.”

Manawanui will not be having a run in the Cox Plate 2011 after it was confirmed by trainer Ron Leemon that they were not going to pay the late entry fee.

The gelding will now go on the $1.5 million Victoria Derby for three-year-olds on October 29, 2011.
